Break that fear of not doing. And start to create.”

Seimiek Kiemes
Street Artist
Lima, Peru

Q: When did you start and how would you define your style?

Crooked snakes, street cats, and rabid bears are key icons in my imagery. I started in the late nineties, intervening on the streets in Lima. My style tends to portray savage animal life and fantasy-like characters- which communicate with each other-creating a concrete visual narrative.

Q: Where do you draw your inspiration?

I’m influenced by Peruvian folklore and popular art. Through this, I try to redefine public spaces with paint and graffiti to create new experiences and tell stories through walls.

Q: How has your changed since you started?

Over time, I evolved my paintings into tridimensional sculptures, turning my characters into giant artistic objects made from recycled materials. My artwork and sculptures are often combined with sound, generating active interaction between my creations and my viewers.

Q: What would you tell someone who is currently struggling on their own creative journey?

We shouldn't think, "what if I do it wrong" or, "I'm going to fail". Because you are going to make mistakes anyway. It's better to just make it, and on the way, you will get to do it again. And every time it gets better and bigger, and in the end, it converts into a giant snowball of cool things.

And that's the point, right? To break that fear of not doing. And to start to create.
